This is a short video of a spirit-medium dancing ritualistically while in a trance state to melodic and rhythmic instrumental music. He is wearing a ceremonial costume emblematic of the possessing spirit and using two long blades to perform self-mortification. This video was recorded at a god's birthday party celebration at a Chinese temple in Singkawang West Kalimantan in 2019, by the chapter author, Emily Hertzman. In the video a crowd forms around the medium to watch him perform, and an assistant helps him to detangle his headdress from his blades.
